Our Pastor

Eddie Cooper, Jr was born March 8th to Eddie and Mary Cooper in Detroit, Michigan. He was educated in the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Schools. He graduated from Bishop Borgess High School. He has been blessed to further his education at Ashland Theological Seminary (Practical Theology) and Saginaw Valley State University (Psychology).

He confessed Christ and was baptized at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in the year of 2000 under the leadership of Rev. Frank Raines, III. He was licensed to preach the Gospel in the year of 2012 at the Greater Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Ricardo Bartlett, Sr.

Rev. Cooper has since served as the Director of Youth for the Metropolitan Baptist District Association Congress of Christian Education (MEDCCE), Co-Director of Youth for the Metropolitan Baptist District Association Young People’s Auxiliary. He has been blessed with many opportunities to communicate God’s Word at conferences, retreats, camps, revivals and worship services all across Detroit, Metropolitan Baptist District Association, Wolverine State Convention and the nation.

Rev. Cooper loves all of God’s people but working with the youth has always been a passion of his. He is always motivated to help the youth in the city of Detroit grow in and live out their faith. While his interests vary, his primary passion remains to work with the children and youth to forcefully and powerfully advance the message of Christ and His kingdom.

In 2013, he met and fell in love with the former Carlethia Robinson, and on December 9, 2017, they were married in Holy Matrimony. Pastor Cooper is a committed husband, father, teacher and mentor who loves his wife dearly.

In November 2020, the Lord led Rev. Cooper and his family to join under the leadership of Pastor R. Patrick Johnson at the Greater Burnette Baptist Church, where he served as Special Assistant to the Pastor.

On October 30, 2021, a new chapter in Rev. Cooper’s history was written. On this day, Rev. Eddie Cooper, Jr., was voted as Pastor Elect and on December 5, 2021, Rev. Cooper was installed as the sixth Pastor of New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

Since becoming Pastor of New Mt. Moriah, Pastor Cooper has ordained three Deacons and has brought many souls to Christ. He has grown the Trustee Board, Deaconess Ministry and has re-established the Youth Choir, Youth Mime Ministry and Social Media Ministry. He has also worked hand in hand with Wayne Metropolitan Community Agency to help bring resources to the community. Most recently, Pastor Cooper made history by licensing the first woman to preach at New Mt. Moriah. He was also named 4th Vice Moderator of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist District Association, Inc. Pastor Cooper has more plans in the works and God willing, he and New Mt. Moriah will be able to accomplish them all.

I’m living daily by what is written in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
Also, 2 Timothy 4:2 and 4:5, “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage - with great patience and careful instruction. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”
God called me for a reason, and I will be obedient to His word. I love and respect people. I love to have fun, and I am focused on being the best I can be.

Pastor Eddie Cooper, Jr. and Lady Carly Cooper | New Mt Moriah MBC

First Lady of New Mt Moriah MBC
Lady Carlethia Cooper is the First Lady and Music Director of New Mt Moriah MBC, where she serves alongside her husband, Pastor Eddie Cooper Jr. She’s been singing since childhood and has a heart for worship and uplifting all through music. With a love for God and people, Lady Cooper enjoys using her gift to enhance every worship experience.
Her favorite scripture, Isaiah 40:31: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."; which continues to strengthen and guide her journey.

Ministerial Staff

Rev. Michael Svoeuy was born on September 25, 1980 in a refugee camp in Southern Thailand to Cambodian parents, a beginning that shaped his deep appreciation for God’s grace and providence. At the age of 18, he made the life-changing decision to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. In December 2011, he answered the divine call to preach the Gospel, and on February 12, 2012, he delivered his trial sermon entitled “Don’t Stop Pressing,” marking the beginning of his preaching ministry.
Rev. Svoeuy is a devoted husband to Rasheida Svoeuy and a loving father to their two children, Aaron and Kelsey. His life and ministry are anchored in the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19 and the bold declaration of Romans 1:16, as he seeks to reach the lost, equip the saints, and glorify God in all he does. With a loving heart and a passion for the truth of God’s Word, Rev. Svoeuy remains committed to pressing forward in faith, service, and love.

Elder Joseph Fielder | New Mt Moriah MBC

Elder Joseph Fielder answered his calling on July 22, 2012, thus being ordained in the Church of God in Christ. He first served as a Deacon, and was later elected to serve as a Minister, being ordained with full ministerial approval. Elder Fielder leans heavily on the spirit of Christ to lead him.
During his layman career, Elder was a First Responder with several metro Detroit fire departments serving as a Firefighter Medic. He retired from the Detroit Fire Department as an Emergency Medical Training Instructor.
Serving man’s spiritual needs, as well as man’s medical needs, is Elder’s reward. Serving at New Mt Moriah has been a blessing to him.

Deanna Merritt is an Associate Minister at New Mt Moriah MBC. She was licensed to preach over ten years ago, and she is passionate about serving in Evangelism and teaching ministries.
She is a graduate of Excelsior University (Albany, NY), with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She is an Army Veteran with over 20 years of military service.
Deanna loves being a member and servant leader at New Mt Moriah MBC because we are truly God-driven and people-focused.

Minister Timeka Brown is a dedicated member of the ministry at New Mt Moriah MBC. She received her ministerial license on July 20, 2025, and has since embraced the calling to serve God’s people with faith, humility, and a heart for ministry.
Minister Brown finds great joy in supporting the church through various subcommittees, including Women’s Day and the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee. Her commitment to service and her love for the Lord shine through in all she does, as she continues to grow in grace and purpose within the body of Christ.

Rev. Bryan Valentine | New Mt Moriah MBC

Rev. Bryan Valentine leads our Youth Ministry, called Next Gen Youth Ministries. His goal is to build out the church by building up young leaders now, so they are prepared to lead when the time is right. Throughout his ministry, he trains and teaches our youth, ensuring they can learn, while having fun as they grow in their faith.
Rev. Valentine loves God and has a heart for children. He loves our youth and is proud of the growth at New Mt Moriah.
