Our Pastor

Eddie Cooper, Jr was born March 8th to Eddie and Mary Cooper in Detroit, Michigan. He was educated in the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Schools. He graduated from Bishop Borgess High School. He has been blessed to further his education at Ashland Theological Seminary (Practical Theology) and Saginaw Valley State University (Psychology).

He confessed Christ and was baptized at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in the year of 2000 under the leadership of Rev. Frank Raines, III. He was licensed to preach the Gospel in the year of 2012 at the Greater Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Ricardo Bartlett, Sr.

Rev. Cooper has since served as the Director of Youth for the Metropolitan Baptist District Association Congress of Christian Education (MEDCCE), Co-Director of Youth for the Metropolitan Baptist District Association Young People’s Auxiliary. He has been blessed with many opportunities to communicate God’s Word at conferences, retreats, camps, revivals and worship services all across Detroit, Metropolitan Baptist District Association, Wolverine State Convention and the nation.

Rev. Cooper loves all of God’s people but working with the youth has always been a passion of his. He is always motivated to help the youth in the city of Detroit grow in and live out their faith. While his interests vary, his primary passion remains to work with the children and youth to forcefully and powerfully advance the message of Christ and His kingdom.

In 2013, he met and fell in love with the former Carlethia Robinson, and on December 9, 2017, they were married in Holy Matrimony. Pastor Cooper is a committed husband, father, teacher and mentor who loves his wife dearly.

In November 2020, the Lord led Rev. Cooper and his family to join under the leadership of Pastor R. Patrick Johnson at the Greater Burnette Baptist Church, where he served as Special Assistant to the Pastor.

On October 30, 2021, a new chapter in Rev. Cooper’s history was written. On this day, Rev. Eddie Cooper, Jr., was voted as Pastor Elect and on December 5, 2021, Rev. Cooper was installed as the sixth Pastor of New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

Since becoming Pastor of New Mt. Moriah, Pastor Cooper has ordained three Deacons and has brought many souls to Christ. He has grown the Trustee Board, Deaconess Ministry and has re-established the Youth Choir, Youth Mime Ministry and Social Media Ministry. He has also worked hand in hand with Wayne Metropolitan Community Agency to help bring resources to the community. Most recently, Pastor Cooper made history by licensing the first woman to preach at New Mt. Moriah. He was also named 4th Vice Moderator of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist District Association, Inc. Pastor Cooper has more plans in the works and God willing, he and New Mt. Moriah will be able to accomplish them all.
